Mountain Biking Trails

Located on Joburg’s southern tip is the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, complete with hills, grasslands, indigenous trees and game (zebra, wildebeest, impala, blesbok, springbok and indigenous game including the protected Black Wildebeest). There, Thaba Eco Hotel is home to Thaba Trails, which offers a safe, varied trail network to ride.

There are three trail options:

  1. Yellow (distance: 6 or 15km) for beginners or novices
  2. Green (distance: 22km) for intermediate-level riders
  3. Blue (under construction) for experienced or advanced riders

This gradient-rich trail riding* offers both gentle slopes and challenging climbs and descent – and it’s close to the city (only 8km from the city limits). All levels of skills and fitness are catered for, so it’s also a great family riding destination. Plus, there’s a restaurant, a coffee shop, two bars, and a salon/spa located at the hotel.

*Tyres: There’s a mixture of rocky and soft trail surfaces – typical of Gauteng conditions – so a firm sidewall tyre is recommended.
