A New Green Team Crowned at Thaba Eco Hotel

Thaba Eco Hotel recently played host to an extraordinary celebration of beauty, leadership, and environmental stewardship as the 2025 Miss Earth South Africa winners were officially announced. The event brought together inspiring young women, committed sponsors, and sustainability advocates for a day that truly reflected Thaba’s ethos — “celebrating life” and protecting the planet we call home.

For the past 22 years, the Miss Earth South Africa organisation has worked at grassroots level, driving environmental education and community upliftment through workshops, school projects, and greening initiatives. This year, the torch passes to a new generation of eco-leaders ready to continue that legacy.

And the Winners Are…

The crown of Miss Earth South Africa 2025 was awarded to Jenique Botha from Ekurhuleni — a 22-year-old LLB student and BCom Law graduate from North-West University. She is joined by her runner-ups:

  • 1st Runner-Up: Brilliant Dzavana from Tzaneen, Limpopo
  • 2nd Runner-Up: Tshiamo Morare from Atteridgeville, Tshwane
  • 3rd Runner-Up: Mpho Moleya from Midrand

“I am honoured to carry this prestigious title and look forward to championing the organisation’s sustainability and climate programmes as we continue to charter a new chapter together,” said Botha.

Beauty with a Cause

As the new Miss Earth South Africa, Jenique will represent South Africa at the international Miss Earth pageant in the Philippines this November, supported by Cathay Pacific. There, she will showcase the local projects that address climate change, food security, waste management, and environmental education in schools.
Miss Earth is the third-largest beauty pageant in the world, built on the philosophy of “Beauty with a Cause.” It celebrates not only grace and poise but also the passion and purpose of women dedicated to driving climate action and sustainability.

A Perfect Setting for a Purposeful Event

Held at Thaba Eco Hotel — Johannesburg’s green heart — the event reflected a shared commitment to sustainable living. With solar energy, advanced water conservation, and waste management systems integrated into its operations, Thaba provided the ideal setting for this meaningful occasion.

“It’s an honour to host an event that so deeply aligns with who we are,” said Kirsty Marais, Chief Excellence Officer at Thaba Eco Hotel. “Empowering young women who are passionate about protecting the environment is a cause close to our hearts. Their dedication to creating lasting change reminds us that sustainability is not just a responsibility — it’s a shared journey.”

Empowering Women, Empowering Change

The event was supported by long-standing partners including Skin Renewal SA, Samsonite, Cathay Pacific, Brand South Africa, Newsclip, and 321 Technical Systems. Together, they continue to uplift the women who dedicate their time and energy to community outreach, environmental education, and greening initiatives across South Africa.

Catherine Constantinides, Executive Director of Miss Earth South Africa, reflected on the importance of the programme:

“Sustainability and women’s empowerment are two sides of the same coin. When young women lead environmental change, communities shift, and narratives evolve. Empowered women are not only changemakers — they are earth-shakers.”

As the 2025 Miss Earth South Africa Green Team steps into their new roles, Thaba Eco Hotel is proud to stand alongside them in championing sustainability, empowerment, and action — one tree, one woman, and one community at a time.
