Thaba Eco Hotel Turns Sunshine into Sustainability with New Solar Farm

At Thaba Eco Hotel, our commitment to sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life. From the indigenous plants in our gardens to our eco-conscious architecture and conservation-focused experiences, every element of our guest offering is designed with care for the environment. And now, we’re proud to announce another major step forward: the installation of our very own 250kWp solar farm.

A Powerful New Addition

Our newly completed solar farm is expected to generate over 414,000 kWh of clean, renewable energy each year. That’s enough electricity to power approximately 86 average South African homes annually! (Based on an average household usage of 4,800 kWh/year.)

This new system now offsets around 40% of our hotel’s total energy needs, significantly reducing our reliance on the national grid and lowering our carbon footprint by an estimated 398 tonnes of CO₂ each year.

More Than Just Energy

Designed as a sleek aluminium cantilevered carport structure, the solar installation installed in partnership with Spring Energy Solutions, is both functional and elegant. It provides shaded parking while harnessing the abundant Gauteng sunshine to power our operations behind the scenes.
